Sophie’s Fetch Toy

Today was Sophie’s fourth day of training with her iFetch toy.  She loves playing with her toy! I watched the training video on the iFetch website.  The trainer said, “Treat your dog with tasty treats that smell really good.  Don’t treat them with just dry milk bones.”  Sophie is motivated by treats.  I can generally get her to do anything if I offer her a tasty treat!

Before I started training with Sophie, I purchased a couple of thick slices of turkey from the grocery store deli.  I chopped the turkey into small bite size pieces.  I gave Sophie a few pieces of turkey to get her motivated and we started the training.  The first day we trained for about 15 minutes then we stopped.  Sophie continue to play around her toy for a few minutes then she laid on her bed and slept for three hours.  I remember thinking, “She didn’t trained that hard, why is she sleeping so long?”  The next day, we trained for 15 minutes then we stopped.  Sophie played around her toy again then she laid on her bed and  slept for three hours AGAIN!  After the third day, it occurred to me that it was the TURKEY that was making her so sleepy lol……….Turkey is loaded with tryptophan, a natural sleeping agent. Next week, we will train with some chicken!
